Rubber compounds for moulding
Termogomma specialises in the design and production of high-quality rubber compounds, tailored to customer specifications. NBR, natural rubber, EPDM, IRR, butyl, SBR, FKM (FPM), polyurethane (PU) and silicone are just some of the formulations regularly processesed.
Experience, compound customisation and high flexibility (fast delivery and minimum batches of around 35 kg) represent the added value of the company. Thanks to its in-house mixers, Termogomma produces compounds for all sectors, also managing to carry out special mixed cuts between elastomers and add fillers to increase specific characteristics.
For compounds and products made from them, it is possible to initiate certification processes, such as MOCA 1935:2004 and FDA for the food sector, or KTW and ACS for drinking water applications, among others.
What is a compound and how is it created?
The creation of the compound is a fundamental step in the production of rubber components.
The compound is made by combining the elastomer (the rubber polymer) with specific additives and chemicals that define its characteristics, including its specific physical and mechanical properties, as well as its colour.
The compound obtained by mixing this formulation is not yet rubber as we commonly know it. This compound cannot be vulcanised, meaning it cannot create the chemical bonds that give the material its elastic properties.
The blending
Rubber processing involves a two-stage mixing process. The first, performed in a closed mixer, softens the elastomer and blends it with the other liquid and solid components. The second, carried out in an open mixer, refines the compound by making it more homogeneous and adding further additives, such as accelerators, to prepare the material for vulcanisation.
Sulphur and peroxide are among the most commonly used compounds for acceleration, but rubber technologists carefully dose the chemical mix based on the desired outcome.
On its closed and open mixer lines, Termogomma continuously produces high-quality compounds for its own rubber moulding departments and, when required, for direct use by selected customers.
The processed elastomers, depending on the polymers used and the types of fillers added, acquire highly diverse physical and mechanical properties, meeting the requirements of an extremely wide range of potential applications.
Once characterised and loaded, the rubber is vulcanised in injection or compression presses where the rubber compound is pressed and heated, creating elastic bonds that provide greater resistance to wear, tensile stress and environmental agents.
We create your formula for success
Termogomma supplies compounds based on standard and customised recipes tailored to the customer’s needs, taking into account storage and vulcanisation time requirements. The decision to formulate rubber materials in-house allows for infinite variations to suit every type of application, while ensuring full quality control right from the base chemistry.
Choosing Termogomma means:
Being able to rely on full control over every stage of processing, with the flexibility to customise quality standards.
Having certified formulation testing and precise dimensional checks on the finished product.
Handling unvulcanised rubber to be activated at the right time to avoid waste.
Maximum flexibility in accommodating any volume request
Wide range of compounds and hardness grades to meet every need
Maximum control over process parameters
